Teaching Experience

PS 153 Adam Clayton Powell Elementary (New York, NY) 2003-04
I began teaching as a New York City Teaching Fellow. At PS 153, I taught 32 5th graders, most of whom were immigrants from the Dominican Republic.

Amber Charter Elementary (New York, NY) 2004-06
Amber is a small K-5 school in East Harlem. Besides my regular teaching duties, I co-chaired the school’s Student Council, organized Career Day, and taught extended day and Saturday School.

Portland Jewish Academy (Portland, OR) 2006-09
This school was an enormous change from NYC public schools. It was a new, challenging and rewarding experience to be immersed in yet another culture different from my own and to navigate the world of independent education.

Paul T. Albert Memorial School (Tununak, AK) 2009-10
Tununak is a tiny Yup’ik village on the coast of the Bering Sea. I worked with students who were 2-3 years behind their grade level peers. I was finishing my Reading endorsement at this time and was able to put many of those new skills directly into practice both in my classroom and as a teacher leader.

Trillium Charter School (Portland, OR) 2010-14
I taught a blended 4/5 class at Trillium, which focused on democratic education and constructivist learning practices. I fostered deep relationships with students and families as a result of our blended classrooms, and learned a great deal about student-centered instruction. I also worked to be a leader among my colleagues, organizing grade- and school-wide events, fundraisers, and trainings.

Lowrie Primary School (Wilsonville, OR) 2014-16
After four years at Trillium I enjoyed two wonderful years teaching 5th grade at Lowrie Primary. While there I began working toward my Special Ed credential at Portland State. In April 2016 I went on maternity leave for the remainder of the school year.

 Private Tutoring (Portland, OR) 2016-present
While out of the classroom, I worked as a private tutor. I supported students in reading, math, writing, and executive function. I used the Barton program for my students with Dyslexia.

Rose City Park Elementary School (Portland, OR) 2021-present
While raising my two daughters, I completed the requirements for my Special Education license. I’ve spent the current school year supported students as a Learning Specialist and it has been a joy to return to teaching. I love working in Special Education and hope to continue in this work.
